Both Sony and Microsoft are offering free access to online gaming. Starting from yesterday, February 17, PlayStation 4 users without a PlayStation Plus subscription can go online and play multiplayer for free. Sony has waived the sub free for the week instead of just the usual weekend. All multiplayer modes will be available for any PS4 game owned.
Starting this Friday, February 17, you, your friends, your next door neighbor – everyone – will be able to access the online multiplayer modes in any PS4 game that you own without a PlayStation Plus subscription.
Microsoft got an early start on its vacation. The company’s Multiplayer All-Access event began at 12:01 a.m. on Feb 16, 2017, and will run until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19. During that four-day span, online multiplayer gaming is unlocked on Xbox 360 and Xbox One — no Xbox Live Gold subscription required. Additionally, all Xbox One owners can download and play two of the most popular games du jour for free during the event: NBA 2K17 and Rocket League.
Sony has run a number of free multiplayer weekends on PlayStation 4 in the past, but this time, Sony went ahead of Microsoft by extending the promotion for a full seven days. As said earlier, PS4 owners won’t need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play games online. Unlike Microsoft, however, Sony isn’t offering any free full-game trials during the week.
The free multiplayer period ends on Thursday Febuary 23 on PlayStation and February 19 on Xbox
